R&R/Accepting

It's been 10 months since my boyfriend has been gone, so far we have been on two R&R's together, he left for Balad, Iraq August 6th,2008, we have been together throughout the whole time he has been gone, we have a lot of up's and downs, lately its been more downs, for me it's like "COME HOME ALREADY!" I miss him so much, those R&R's are just too short. The last R&R we went to Europe and had so much fun, everyday we did something productive, we drove everywhere and just enjoyed beautiful Europe. We went camping with friends, drove across the country and checked out beautiful castles, it was a very memorable experience. The first time we departed I did not cry, once in my car going home from the airport, I just started crying, I spent the rest of the afternoon looking at our pictures from R&R...The second time around, I just could not hold it in anymore, I started balling. Of course, he said "be strong, don't cry". Of course I stopped crying. I just hated the fact of him leaving AGAIN. I look back and see how much progress we have made it through this whole time being together while him being gone, and it's worth it.

So I'm new here, I have been looking for something that would let me connect to other ladies who have experienced more than me being in a military relationship. No I'm not married, I'm just a girlfriend, but I have had something bothering me soo much lately that my boyfriend mentioned to me the other day.

Well to start my boyfriend is finishing up training I do not really want to mention the base because I do not want this to cause a stir and he has met some amazing new guys down there. The thing is that he has this one friend, whom I thought was such an amazing guy when I first met him, well turns out he really is not. This guy had been with his girlfriend for seven years and they decided to get married two months ago, well come to find out he decided to cheat with a girl who is in the army and in a different company, I was absolutely devastated by this. I never in my wildest dreams could see this guy cheating on his wife. I know its really none of my business but it is just so upsetting. I know my boyfriend would never do that, he wont even talk to his friend because of this. I know his wife will probably never know but having that in the back of my mind just keeps constantly bothering me, I just feel so bad for her. Sorry its kind of a useless post but I was thinking some of you ladies could help me out with this. Thank you!

Howdy! My name is Angela and I am new to the Group as well as the Sugar site! This is so great! I wanted to introduce myself and I look forward to sharing my stories as well as reading yours, asking for advice and getting to know you all!!

Oh - I am in love with a wonderful Naval Aviator!! However, he is being transferred from Oklahoma (where we are, obviously) to Florida at the end of October. I will NOT be going with him due to my job, but he will be leaving the military in May and we're hoping to move to Utah together...if we can make it through this challenge....

My boyfriend will be leaving for his first tour at the end of the year and we have been avoiding the topic for a long time. Now that it is soon appraching I have taken an interest in doing everything I can to be prepared.

Well, I recently came across USMC gals ( http://www.usmcgals.com/ ), an online community for all those people who have a loved one in the military. People can post pictures of their Marine, learn about the marine corps history, boot camp basics, marine terms and definitions and everything that Marines are taught in Bootcamp and that we end up learning through them.

One of my favorite ideas on this site is the "themed care packages" so I've included some of their ideas. I included a page of the theme suggestions but the site has a ton more ideas so i suggest checking it out.

" Surviving the Sandstorms"- Eye wash; Nasal spray; Chap stick; Bandana; goggles/sun glasses; etc

"Laundry Load"- Laundry soap (`sample size' or Tide tablets kind) to pack in with their clothes?. in case there are no washer/dryers; Fabric softener sheets; clean socks and undershirts; Febreeze

"Lotta Java"- Tea; Cocoa; Coffee singles; creamer; sugar; International Coffee tins; cookies for dunking in coffee

"Thanks a Million!!"- Things that may "seem" expensive. Ex: Grey Poupon; electronic game of "Who wants to be a Millionaire?"

"A Day at the Beach!"- sunscreen; beach towel; beach snacks; flip flop sandals (shower shoes); aloe vera gel;

"Medicine Cabinet"- aspirin; band-aids; Neosporin cream; A&D ointment; cold medicine; alka seltzer; Rolaids; etc.

"Staying Healthy"- nutrition/health bars (ex: Power bar; Tigers Milk; Myoplex); vitamins; Nutri-grain bars; Gatorade or other sports drink (to stay hydrated);

"Tube O Tasties"- Just as something different? send a package in a tube instead of a square box. Make sure the parameters are acceptable though.

"Stress Reliever"- back scratcher; bubble wrap; yo-yo's; bubbles; squeezy tension ball;

"Sloppy Kisses"- since we know chocolate melts over there?. send a bunch of Hershey's kisses. Bound to be "sloppy kisses!"

"I'm Nuts About You"- peanuts; cashews; pistachios; peanut butter cookies; any candy or cookies with nuts in them; Nutter Butter's; Peanut Lover's Chex mix; Fiddle Faddle with peanuts

"Muchas Gracias?Nachos Supreme"- Doritos &/or Fritos &/or any corn tortilla chips; Mexican Velveeta; salsa (wrapped in bubble wrap); small can of olives (don't forget the can opener); bean dip; nacho cheese dip; small can of green chilies; jar of jalapenos (wrapped in bubble wrap); taco seasoning; small paper plates or bowls (so they can make their nachos); taco sauce (especially easy are those condiment packets from Taco Bell); You could also send the sauces from the various Mexican dinner kits (they also have tortilla's in those dinner kits that are sealed so they would probably get there without molding or drying out); Taco Bell Nacho Supreme kit

"Sweet Tooth"- Nerds; Gummy Bears; Laffy Taffy; Bubble Gum; Tootsie Rolls; Lolli pops; (any candy that won't melt)

"Pamper Party" (for females)- Feminine hygiene products; shampoo/conditioner; hair barrettes and scrunchies (same color as their hair); facial scrub &/or soap; facial mask; lotion; shower gel; razors; facial moisturizer; tweezers; nail care kit; toner; special facial products (alpha hydroxy; eye cream; etc);

I know i am young, that is something i do not need to hear, what i need to hear is true help with my problems. Im tired of hearing "your too young to be in such a serious relationship, your too young to have so much stress, your too young to know what you want in life, explore more"!! that is no help to me, i have gone through so much in my life, it was kind of hard not to mature as fast as i did.

I have been with a guy for a year now, well coming up on saturday. We have been living together in our apartment for coming up on 7 months. How we got together is one long story but when we did get together it was expected to never form into what it has. Falling in love was not our plan, but plans change. For about the last four months we have been in a rough patch we can not get out of. Things have become harsh and twisted in our relationship. He cares so much about what people think about him that he does not think how it affects and hurts me. His mother hates me and would not even give me a chance when i went to meet them for christmas, his friends think we should not be together and it is all because they are being to a twisted and cold story of everything that has happened. He cheated on me january and i forgave him even though it was a girl who was suppose to be my friend. I gave him on more chance and he has not messed up in that way yet. I fear he is starting to form a drinking problem and i dont know how to make him see it. He gets so arrogant, hurtfully, twice physically. Yes i know i should have left than but i know it is not him. He does not realize he is hurting me. He would never hit me in any way but its small things.

I feel for the first time in my life that love does not conquer all things. I am getting so tired, so emontionally spent. He deploys in april and he continues to tell me he does not know what he is going to feel the next day. I am waiting fifteen months for him and i dont know if its going to be a waste..one day he thinks we are right and the next he thinks we may not work at all. I dont know what to do. Im putting over a year of my life on the line for him and he can not even tell me if he wants to be engaged or married to me one day..when do you know when its time to stop trying, when you've finally had enough? I love him and i know he loves me..do i continue to wait?

i have so much more i need an opinion on..there has been so much that has happened, i hate waking up confused with my life everday.

My boyfriend is finally 'in theater' after three months of training. I would like to send him some baked goods for his birthday. Does anyone have any good recipes that will keep for a week in the mail? I don't want to send him something just to have him throw it out when it gets there because it's stale. I've heard packing things with slices of bread works. Any other suggestions from seasoned veterans?
